Friends of the Library Supports Multnomah County Library

Friends of the Multnomah County Library (FOL) advocates for and supports our outstanding public library. We provide supplemental funding for library programs and services, and sponsor activities which engage people who value our library.

The money raised by Friends of the Library directly funds the Pageturners book groups at all library branches, National Library Workers Day events, the Adult Summer Reading program, and other vital library initiatives. We have a long history of advocacy in addition to funding library programs and services.

Since our founding in 1972, Friends of the Library has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to support our libraries. See what we have achieved this year with your support at By the Numbers!

We conduct the biggest used book sales in Oregon each spring and fall with over 100,000 donated items. We also sell books and other merchandise at special events like Wordstock, Books for Beer, and the Mississippi Street Fair throughout the year. We accept donations of books at all library branches.

We run the Friends Library Store inside Central Library. We have a carefully curated selection of high-quality used books, greeting cards, jewelry, and locally made gifts. We also host an annual Holiday Sale at Central Library the first weekend of December, with seasonal offerings and gift quality books. Members get 10% off at the store.

We sell everything from recently published signed fiction to out of print vintage and rare titles. We also sell textbooks, media, and paper ephemera online through Amazon and eBay. Collector’s Corner inventory can also be purchased at our book sales, the Rose City Book Fair, and the Holiday Sale.

The heart of our organization is our membership. We have annual memberships starting at $25 that come with benefits including Members Only nights at our Book Sales and 10% off at the Friends Store.

Friends of the Multnomah County Library is a 501(c)3 organization (EIN #93-6097526).
