Thank you for your interest in volunteering! For over 40 years, volunteers have been the heart and soul of our organization. Each year hundreds of volunteers donate their time to support the Friends of the Library. Every volunteer makes a measurable impact in the funds that Friends raises for the Library's life-enriching programs and services. Friends offers many rewarding volunteer opportunities for individuals, and high school, college, corporate, or community groups of any size.

Annual Fall and Spring Used Book Sales
We rely on hundreds of volunteers each fall and spring to help make the largest used book sales in Oregon a huge success! Volunteers help set up, pack up, monitor and stock tables, sign-in and welcome other volunteers, assist at the information table, serve as cashiers, and other important tasks.

Location: Lloyd Center DoubleTree Hotel, Portland
Help us sort and inventory all of our donated items so that we can sell them online, at the Friends Library Store and at the fall, spring and holiday Book Sales!
Shifts: 3+ hour shift anytime between 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, or Friday
Location: Isom Building, 216 NE Knott St., Portland
Friends Library Store
Help us staff the Friends Library Store at Central Library. Duties include operating an iPad point of sale system, stocking books and merchandise, and greeting and assisting shoppers. Retail or customer service experience preferred but not required. Must be 18 years of age or older. Due to the training and level of responsibility involved in this ongoing volunteer activity, we ask volunteers to make a six-month commitment.
Shifts: During open store hours daily
Location: Central Library, 801 SW 10th Ave., Portland
Friends of the Library Board members serve 3 year terms and provide oversight, governance, and financial management to the organization. The commitment includes monthly Board and committee meetings and activities as scheduled by the respective committee chairs. Members are expected to commit time to Book Sales and to serve on or more of the following committees: Book Sale, Membership, Marketing, Finance, Technology, Nominations, and Retail.
