The Friends of the Multnomah County Library is a nonprofit organization with a mission to advocate for and support our outstanding public library. We provide supplemental funding for library programs and sponsor activities which engage people who value our library. Friends is currently accepting applications for new members to join our Board of Directors. If you are interested in applying for a three-year term beginning in July, 2019, please submit a resume, as well as a cover letter detailing your interest, qualifications, and any prior familiarity with our organization.

Interviews will take place throughout the month of April.
The Friends of the Library is a working board with board members taking an active role in advocacy on behalf of the library, as well as marketing, membership, and event planning activities for the organization. Board commitment requires attendance at monthly meetings and participation in one or more of our standing committees. Enthusiasm, the ability to work well as a member of a team, and a flexible schedule are all assets for this work.
The ideal candidate should be passionate about public libraries and currently live or work in Multnomah County. We welcome diverse candidates who are excited to bring awareness of the library and the Friends to new audiences. Individuals who have a financial background are especially welcome to apply, as are those with public speaking and advocacy experience.
We are looking for candidates with the following qualities or skills:
Passionate about our public library
Representative of the diversity of groups served by our library
Interested in working with a diverse, large team
Strongly connected to our community
Familiar with grassroots-organizing
Familiar with managing a nonprofit budget
Law and/or personnel management experience
Social media savvy
